"Dear Foreigner,
We may be small and relatively unknown but we could become almost as notorious as other small places like Iceland or Ireland. For here in Latvia we are engaged in a national game of 'Chicken' with the IMF and European Central Bank. If we back down, one likely result is that we set off a series of devaluations and defaults across Eastern Europe. If they swerve first, then every small nation will be able to strong-arm them for more funding on weak terms, thus further undermining financial discipline. Maybe it is time you bought a map?
Regards, the Latvian Treasury"
